Sole Trader: Tax & Invoices
Keep the records. Keep them straight.
Invoices, expenses, income and mileage for your UK self-assessment. Offline.
Coming toGoogle PlayComing toApp Store
Free — invoices, expenses, income and mileage, with no entry limits. Pro adds automatic trip recording, PDF summaries and year-on-year comparison.
A record-keeping app for UK sole traders and self-employed workers — drivers, tradespeople, freelancers, anyone filing a Self Assessment return. Raise an invoice, record what you spend, and keep the mileage.
It is not a tax return. It does not file anything with HMRC and it does not connect to your bank. What it does is make sure that when the deadline comes, the numbers are already there and you can hand them straight to your accountant or into MTD-recognised software.
How it treats your data
It works offline.
Your records live on the phone, encrypted, and everything works with no signal — including receipt capture, which reads the amount and the date on the device. Signing in is optional, and if you never do it the app makes no network requests at all.
Nothing about you is sold.
No analytics, no tracking and no advertising identifier. If you do sign in, the copy of your records is held in the EU for you to pick up on another phone, and for nothing else.
There are no adverts.
None, on either tier. There is no advertising library in the build.
Invoices that meet HMRC's rules.
Raise one on the phone and send it as a PDF. The app knows when an invoice needs the full VAT detail and when a simplified one will do, handles the construction industry deduction with materials left out of it, and carries the domestic reverse charge notice when it applies. You keep your own numbering.
An invoice becomes income.
Issue it and the income is recorded against the right tax year, so the figure you invoiced and the figure you report are the same figure. Record a payment when it lands and see what is still outstanding.
It knows the costs your trade usually has.
Set your trade when you start. The app names the kinds of cost that trade normally runs to, and flags the ones missing from this year's records. Costs nobody writes down are the ones that cost money.
Photograph a receipt. Nothing is uploaded.
The amount, the date and the shop are read on the phone and offered for you to confirm. Everything files under HMRC's own expense categories, so what you export is already in the shape a return wants.
Mileage at HMRC's approved rates.
Record a trip as you drive it, or type the miles in afterwards. The app applies the right rate for your vehicle and shows how close you are to the point in the year where that rate changes.
A bank statement, read on the phone.
Add a month at a time from a statement you downloaded yourself, as a PDF or a CSV. There is no bank login and no open banking link — the file is read on the device and is not uploaded.
One log, and a way to send part of it.
Every entry in one list. Pick any set and send it as a spreadsheet or a PDF: a month of trips for a mileage claim, or a quarter of everything to your accountant.
Your records stay yours.
Stored on the phone, encrypted. Signing in is optional and adds a copy with your account so you can pick up on another device. No analytics, no advertising, and it works in flight mode.
The detail
- Free
- Invoices, expenses, income and mileage, with no entry limits. Receipt capture, the categories and export are all in the free tier.
- Pro
- Automatic trip recording, PDF summaries and year-on-year comparison. Monthly or annual, through the store you installed from.
- Your data
- On the device, encrypted, with the key in the Android Keystore or the iOS Keychain. Signing in is optional; a signed-in copy is held in the EU. No analytics and no advertising, on any tier.
- Filing
- The app does not file. It is not HMRC-recognised and does not submit anything. It produces the records and the figures you or your accountant file with.
In development. Not on either store yet — the Android and iPhone buttons above turn on the day each listing goes public.

Sole Trader: Tax & Invoices is a record-keeping tool. It does not file tax returns or submit to HMRC. Net profit is your income less the costs you recorded, before capital allowances and any losses brought forward, and every tax figure is an estimate from what you entered. Check anything you act on with an accountant or MTD-recognised software before submitting.
